Chopper's Page Chopper when he was about two months old and about twenty pounds. Frequently Asked Questions About This Dog He generally behaves very well with other dogs, but he will not allow another dog to touch me, or any member of the family. Other dogs are often quite fearful of Chopper so they often exhibit terror and get quite aggressive when he just walks by. Regardless, we don't allow him to play with most other dogs simply because he is large enough that he can cause serious injuries just by stepping on them. Is he a good
watchdog? He
is an excellent watchdog. He is very protective of the family and the house --
sometimes a little bit too protective. He
even protects our other two dogs. He can be really scary when he thinks someone
is a threat. He also tends to be protective in other ways. If we allow you into the house, he will stop you if you try to go down the hall to the bedrooms. If we allow you down the hall, he will stop you from coming in the master bedroom. Don't corner me in a room, don't come up behind me unexpectedly, and don't run at me or make threatening gestures. If you do, Chopper will make it clear that he didn't like it. He probably won't hurt you, but you may need to change your underwear suddenly. Despite his protective nature, it would be useless to try to train Chopper as a guard dog. He just doesn't much care about all that running and jumping over walls, and attacking bad guys and stuff. That kind of thing requires dogs with a lot of motivation that Chopper just doesn't have. If he can't do something within a few feet of me, he just doesn't much care about it. |
