Marijuana Prize Rules
- The Marijuana Prize will be awarded to the first person to
successfully implant the genetic material from marijuana that produces
cannabinoids into any common food.
This prize is open to anyone, anywhere in the world.
- The plant(s) may be any common food found in a typical US grocery store.
Eligible plants may include fruits, nuts, or vegetables. Eligible plants include, but are not restricted to:
Corn, tomatoes, lettuce, celery, potatoes, plums, peaches, pears, apples, oranges, walnuts, almonds, peanuts, carrots, radishes, bell peppers, watermelon, cantaloupe,
and other melons, cucumbers, celery, parsley, herbs, spices, etc., etc.
- We will also consider plants that are not normally consumed by humans now but
might be consumable. For example, ordinary lawn grass might be smoked,
vaporized, or eaten if it contained the active ingredients.
- Lactobacillus (the bacteria in yogurt) and other similar
food organisms are also eligible.
- The products must be reproducible through ordinary
reproductive means such as seeds in the case of seed plants, spores in the case
of spore plants, or ordinary bacteria culture methods in the case of bacteria.
- Cannabinoids must be found in the consumable portion of the
food, and must have been produced in the natural process of growth.
- Entrants must show a reasonable method for the average
person to extract the therapeutic agents and consume them for therapeutic
purposes in therapeutic amounts (at least 5 mg of THC).
- The food must produce both THC and CBD in the dried or
heated product.
- The
levels of cannabinoids in plants designed to be vaporized or smoked must be
equal to the amounts found in comparable marijuana with a minimum of 3 percent
THC in the smokable or vaporizable form.
- Entrants must submit a technical report on their methods
with sufficient detail that competent authorities in the field can review and
critique the methods, and replicate the results. These reports will be published
on this web site for public review. Entrants and other interested parties are
encouraged to submit technical information early in the process for the benefit
of public education.
- Actual results must be verifiable
through independent qualified testing laboratories. The winner will be the
person(s) who first achieve verification through independent testing. If more
than one entrant achieves the required proof on the same date, the winner shall
be determined by the date of the first complete technical description submitted.
