Mike's Favorite Motorcycle Rides
Cold Spring Tavern Ride, May, 2001.
First View Of Road By Tavern Area.

This ride starts in Rosamond, Ca., where I live. Then I go out to the 14 freeway, go south to Hwy 138 and go west by the Poppy Reserve, by the mansion on the left, and Quail Lake to the right and on through to Int.5 freeway. Go north on 5 till you get to Frazier Park turn off and then take Frazier Park Mountain road west through the area and by this time you are in some beautiful country. This is my favorite way to the coast for other ride trips. I recommend this ride in spring or summer months.
After a couple of stop signs, take a left on Lockwood Valley road and it has all the good things a motorcyclist wants, with many scenic vistas while testing your riding skills in twisties, rollercoaster, and sweeping curves. There are low dips in the road that have water running across in the spring. Sometimes it's just a trickle, and other times enough that you have to slow the bike down to a idle and pass through. The other sections of the road are fabulous except for one last crossing of a run off creek which is about 100ft across with two places to cross water. After this, go up to Hwy 33, go left and the twisties continue. Soon your climbing the grade passing Wheeler Springs and then into Ojai, Ca. where you may want to gas up for the trip down the other side of the ridge. You will probably encounter fog at some point going down on Hwy 150 over to Hwy 101. Head north on 101 just past Santa Barbara to Hwy 154 and go right. You then go east towards Lake Cachuma, and right about now your mind and your stomach is thinking of a tri-tip sandwich at "Cold Spring Tavern".
