Mike's Favorite Motorcycle Rides
The Good Friday Ride
25th Annual

This 130 mile round trip ride is for people who want to get out of Dodge and enjoy the Sierra Nevada foothills and mountains via two wheels. This ride all started basically with a friend of mine Steve, who was fighting with his wife about something serious to the relationship and it just happened to be on a "Good Friday" in North Highlands, Ca., North Sacramento county. They were almost trading blows with each other as I understand it, and rather than hurting each other more and making it worse, he decided to get on his favorite motorcycle and head for the foothills. On the way out of town he made a quick stop by the "Cricket Country Kitchen" restaurant on Auburn Blvd. between Madison ave. and Interstate 80 east on ramp, near American River College. He then wolfed down a delicious hearty breakfast and was off on the very first route of the "Good Friday Ride".
In the beginning that first ride was at a very fast pace and future rides would be at a more sedate pace of around 75 mph average speed. So he is soon hitting the on ramp to get on Interstate 80 east and rides till he gets to the off ramp at Roseville, a short distance, and heads out of town on Hwy 65 towards Lincoln , Ca. Lincoln is really the place where the ride starts to be more pleasurable as you get closer to the foothills and approach Auburn, Ca. getting on Int. 80. Going out of Auburn on a friday morning, the traffic is light and you can really enjoy the ride. East out of town he takes the new Forest Hill road to the Forest Hill bridge (The highest bridge in the entire state of California at 730ft) over the North Fork of the American River and where the Middle Fork converge below. Then take the first right and a sign will indicate the little town of Cool and Placerville further on(Old Forest Hill road) twisting down to Hwy 49 crossing over another bridge, enjoying the breath taking views as you serpentine all the way up to the communities of Cool, and Pilot Hill, for a rest stop.(At Pilot Hill)
