Cuba Growing Marihuana

Police Find Narcotic Plots Hidden in Sugar-Cane Fields.

Special Correspondence, The New York Times. December 4, 1932

HAVANA, Nov. 30. -- Many small plots devoted to the cultivation of marihuana, cleverly hidden in large cane fields, have been discovered near Havana by National Secret Police, who have been waging a vigorous campaign against importation and sale of narcotics.

The use of marihuana, which has been smuggled in from Mexico in limited quantities, has greatly increased here owing to these plantations. The price of the narcotic is down 8 and 10 cents per cigarette, as compared with cocaine at $5 a gram.
