Dear Carl:

I am in receipt of your letter dated August 17, 1996, in which you request support to legalize marijuana.

The Governor's Alliance on Substance Abuse supports enforcement of current drug laws, and opposes the legalization of marijuana.  We will not support efforts to minimize the dangers of using marijuana for reasons you and I have already discussed.

We are sympathetic to Iowans who have health problems, and encourage them to seek legal medical treatment.
