A lot of people love to wear and make hemp jewelry. If you want to make your own hemp jewelry, the process is pretty simple. First and foremost, you’ll need a good, quality roll of hemp twine. You can purchase the twine in different colors, but the most popular color still remains the natural tan hue. Pick a thickness that you like and make sure the roll you choose is fairly smooth, not rough and scratchy. Some people like to wax their hemp twine which gives it a nice smooth coating. You will also need to purchase a jewelry clasp which will allow you to connect both ends of your jewelry. These can be found at most arts and crafts stores. There are two basic knot patterns that most people use when making hemp jewelry. One will make the jewelry strand appear wide and flat, and the other is a little bit more intricate, and the strand will look twisty, like a double-helix shape. You may want to practice both ways of tying the knots until you find one that is both fairly easy and that suits your own personal style.
Once you start weaving the knots and have a long enough strand, you may attach the clasp at either end. Many people choose to add beads in their necklaces or bracelets as well to give the jewelry a more customized and colorful look. Opt for some brightly colored ceramic or glass beads and learn how to interweave them into the knots. There are all kinds of tutorials available that will show you how to add in a bead wrapping knot to the equation. If you choose not to use a clasp when you’re finished, be sure you’ve made your hemp piece of jewelry long enough so that you can tie the ends together. You might want to be sure they are twisted and tied together tight so you don’t lose the piece or so it doesn’t break. Once you get good at making hemp jewelry, consider selling your pieces at festivals, craft fairs, flea markets, or giving them to friends as gifts.
