Urine Drug Screening
If you are asked to take a urine drug screening for work, you should know several things. The urine drug screening itself can be administered at the office or they may require you to go to a laboratory. Most companies do in-house testing and if that returns as positive for drugs, then they send you to a laboratory for further testing.
You will be given a cup in which to urinate. Because of widespread cheating on urine drug screenings, someone may accompany you to the restroom to make sure it is your urine and you do not substitute someone else’s urine for your own. In some cases, you may be sent to a single bathroom, but there is a two-way mirror. There may or may not be someone on the other side watching to make sure you are giving them your urine sample.
Of course, the best way to insure you pass a urine drug screening is to refrain from using illegal drugs. You will not test positive if you have been exposed to the smoke of a marijuana cigarette, so do not worry if you have. You may want to lay off any over the counter medications, especially those that are used to treat sinus, allergy, flu, and colds.
Even if you are not using illegal drugs, there is a chance that you could return a positive urine drug screening. If this is the case, the company should send you to a laboratory for further testing. Do not panic if you have not been using anything illegal. The laboratory test is much more conclusive and if you pass that one, the company will take that result rather than the false positive. The laboratory may take 24 – 48 hours to return their findings on the urine drug screening.
