About Soma
Soma is used as a muscle relaxant and pain reliever. It is available by prescription only and is most commonly prescribed for sprains, muscle strains and several other muscle injuries. One thing you should know about Soma is that it is often used together with conventional measures such as rest and physical therapy. About Soma, it can also be used as a conventional pain reliever. Because of its central action in the skeletal muscles and the ability to block pain sensations between the nerves and the brain it actually makes a great general pain reliever.
The common name of the drug is actually Carisoprodol and it is marketed under the brand name Soma in the United States. In other countries the drug can be found as Sanoma, Carisoma, Vanadom or Carisoprodol. Research all the facts about Soma and be sure to discuss it with your physician.
The drug was first developed as meprobamate, a substance that was highly addictive, which led to abuse in the early 1950’s and 1960’s. Later on Soma was developed as an active metabolite of meprobamate with the intention of reducing addiction and withdrawal symptoms when taking the medication. Even now, if taken in higher doses Soma can have sedative and hypnotic effects. Therefore it is recommended not to drive an automobile or other machinery while using Soma.
Some side effects about Soma are that it can cause several side effects including drowsiness, dizziness, clumsiness, headache, fast heart rate, upset stomach, vomiting and skin rash. Sometimes severe symptoms like difficulty of breathing, fever, weakness and burning eyes can appear. Should you experience any of these severe symptoms or other side effects talk to your doctor immediately.
The medication needs to be taken exactly in the amounts prescribed by the doctor and should in general be taken together with food. Food plays an important role in preventing nausea or vomiting. When taking each dose it is also recommended to take it with a full glass of water. Because of its addictive properties the drug should not be shared with anybody else and the intake of Soma should not be stopped abruptly if taken for a longer period of time.
