Viagra
Viagra was patented in 1996 by the Pfizer pharmaceutical company in England. This was a monumental event because Viagra was the first drug that was ever sold that worked to fight erectile dysfunction.
In the beginning stages of development, Viagra was supposed to be a drug that helped with heart and blood disorders. However, the research and tests began to show that Viagra was helpful with erectile dysfunction. Once this was discovered, Pfizer went on to patent it as a drug used for erectile dysfunction.
While Viagra has not been around that long, it has become a very popular drug. The results of those that use it have been favorable and the side effects lessen with continued usage. Most people are not deterred by the side effects enough to stop taking Viagra.
Immediately following the approval of Viagra for erectile dysfunction, Viagra made over one billion dollars in sales. This is a great feat for a drug. There have been some controversial stories about Viagra over the years. Although Peter Dunn and Albert Wood are the names on the patent for Viagra, Pfizer disputes that they were the ones that made the drug.
The name Viagra also often seen as a marketing ploy because it rhymes with Niagara and it is similar to words like virile. The name Viagra also has generated controversy about whether it is a marketing ploy. Regardless it has become associated with erectile dysfunction relief.
The way that Viagra works is that it puts nitric oxide into the corpus cavernosum of the penis. This allows muscles to relax and allow blood to flow more freely through the penis. When this happens, a man is able to achieve and erection.
Recently, Viagra was approved for usage as a heart medication as well. It seems to help relieve the symptoms of a rare heart disorder.
