Ativan
The prescription medication Ativan, also called Lorazepam, is used as an anti-anxiety medication. This drug can be used to help relieve agitation, irritability, anxiety and to relieve insomnia. In addition, some people are given this medication to help calm people that suffer form mania or schizophrenia and used through an IV as a sedative for tension. Ativan is a popular choice because it has fewer side effects than some medications of its kind.
The advantages of Ativan are that it can be used for many ailments and medical issues. It has less effects of the liver than other medications and if you are taking birth control pills or anti-abuse drugs, you can successfully take Ativan. This medication is also commonly used to help people who are suffering from alcohol withdrawal symptoms and to treat amnesia, and symptoms of chemotherapy for cancer patients. Even children who suffer from debilitating seizures can be given oral Ativan under the tongue.
You can see that Ativan has many advantages. Doctors know that they can give this medication in many circumstances with great success. Ativan does have some side effects including confusion, loss of consciousness and sleepiness. In addition, if you take narcotic drugs, you should avoid taking Ativan. This can increase the effects. Never take alcohol when taking Ativan. Also, because this drug is highly addictive, it is best used under constant supervision and medical care. If you have been given this drug over a period of time, you have a high chance of developing withdrawal symptoms if you stop taking the medications all at once. Your doctor will probably want to gradually decrease your dosage to avoid those side effects.
