Prednisone
The prescription drug Prednisone is a useful medication used to treat patients that suffer from symptoms of low corticosteroid levels. This means that these patients have less (or none) of certain substances that are normally produced by the body. These substances are needed so that the person can function normally. In addition to low corticosteroid levels, Prednisone is also prescribed to patients that suffer from certain kinds of arthritis, multiple sclerosis, allergic reactions, lupus and conditions that relate to the thyroid, stomach, lungs, eyes and skin. This prescription medication is also helpful to some cancer patients.
This medication works in ways that enables the person with the affliction to function at a normal level. It replaces steroids that are normally found in the body and can reduce swelling and inflammation due to other medical conditions. It has also been found that this medication is quite helpful in treating certain types of pneumonia in conjunction with antibiotics in patients that are suffering from AIDS.
When taking Prednisone, your doctor will recommend the dosage that is right for you. This medication comes in the form of tablet, liquid and concentrated formula that is taken orally. Usually, this medication is taken one to four times a day at certain times, usually with meals. As with any liquid medication, it is vital that you measure the medication carefully and use the dropper or measuring spoon or cup that is provided. This makes certain that you are taking the right dose.
It is important to note that Prednisone will not cure a disease or condition. Instead, it is used to ease the symptoms of a particular medical condition. Doctors always recommend taking this medication, even on days when you feel better. Continued missed doses of this medication can result in abnormally low steroid levels and undesired side effects.
