| Protonix If you are a person that suffers from repeated moderate to severe acid reflux, heartburn or erosive gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), your doctor may talk to you about taking a prescription medication known as Protonix. Protonix is very beneficial to help treat patients suffering from this type of problem. Nighttime heartburn and GERD can be quite painful and hard to manage. Sometimes changes in the diet are not enough to combat this problem. Medication is often the only way to control the symptoms. Protonix is used to help control the heartburn and acid reflux so the patient can rest easy. Before prescribing Protonix, your doctor will want to run a full examination to make sure that you are suffering from GERD. Protonix is a good choice if your doctor finds that you are experiencing breaks in the lining of your throat. Not only does Protonix help relieve the symptoms, but this prescription medication also works to heal the lining of your esophagus. Most patients that take Protonix can expect to heal within eight weeks of treatment. It is not uncommon however, for your doctor to allow you to take this medication for up to 12 weeks so that you can better control the healing process. If you are thinking about taking Protonix for your erosive acid reflux disease, you should also know that this medication has been known to cause some side effects. Remember though, that your doctor is only having you take this medication for a short period of time. Some side effects can include headache, diarrhea, and gas. If you experience these types of side effects, there is a chance that your health care provider can help you find relief using other medications. When you are suffering from severe heartburn and acid reflux for more than two weeks, talk to your doctor about taking Protonix. You might be surprised that this drug can heal your medical condition.
